Shipolis
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
Shipolis is a cozy minimalist city builder and resource management game.
You are a town planner longing for adventures! With your valiant ship, you have been sent to unknown archipelagos with the task of growing cities and building great wonders! You will have to explore the seas, map various sectors, gather resources and set up production lines. Good planning and wise management will be key to achieve your goals!
NB: this is an alpha build with limited content. I am interested in getting early feedback to refine the core mechanics of the game and ensure it feels fun and interesting. So please share your thoughts and suggestions in the comment section after playing!
Key points
- Every city layout is fixed and predetermined, you will not get any more building spots. Also, depending on the island they are on, cities can produce certain raw materials and not others. In the end, you have to think carefully about what to build, but also where to build. Managing your available building tiles is just as important as managing your resources.
- Transfers of resources between a city and your ship are automatic when you get close to the city, no tedious manual exchanges between inventories! The city gives you everything it has and pulls from you everything it needs to feed its production lines. But these transfers take time. Upgrades allow to increase their speed and capacity, and it will become critical as you start to stockpile more and more resources. You can also lock some items to prevent the automatic transfers if you need to.
- The world is procedurally generated! The shape of the islands, the positions of the available cities... it will be a bit different each time you start a new game!
Available content
- Only one sector to explore as of now
- This sector offers 8 different raw materials to collect, that can be transformed into 10 crafted resources through production lines
- This version has a total of 38 different buildings
- A few upgrades are also accessible to improve your ship.
Accessibility features
- The game autosaves and can be left at all time without losing any progress
- Remappable inputs
- Comfort camera: no screen shakes
- Audio sliders to adjust the volume of the music, interface and environmental sounds
Credits
- The game generates random names for the cities, using a dataset from the GeoNames database (CC BY 4.0 license)
- The key art is a mix of the two following paintings:
- On the Coast of Menton, by Pieter Franciscus Peters (1870, public domain)
- Coastal Landscape, Southern Italy, by Carlo Bossoli (1815-1884, public domain)
