Improved visuals and lore cutscene!


Hello everyone!

I am happy to share today another update for Battle Stones! Not much in terms of gameplay content, but a nice overall upgrade to the game! I worked on improving the visuals, polishing and cleaning the UI, and introducing some theme and lore. I think this helps to convey a fantasy and better dive into the ambiance of Battle Stones. The changes also prepare some future mechanics I have in mind. I would like to know your opinion on the UI improvements, especially the shop that was completely revamped.

Added

  • Added an introduction cutscene
  • Added a progress map to select the next opponent after the shop (the map is a straight line for now so no choice, but the goal is to have choices in the future!)
  • Added character portraits to the player and the opponents
  • Added a new stats: weight, which is the total number of items in the deck (i.e the number of squares, a stone with 2 items contributes for 2 weight)
    • The money cap is now dependent on the weight of the deck (max money= 5 x weight)

Changed

  • Revamped the shop layout
    • Special deals now cannot be for merging or deleting, but only for buying
    • There are always three special deals for buying, and they are always -15%, -25% and -35%, the slots are on a separate line
    • Decreased slightly the merging price
    • Decreased the reroll price
  • Lots of UI theme tweaks
  • Changed the background, added a light parallax effect with the mouse cursor movement
  • Adapted the tutorials to the new layouts, improved some wording, and a card about how to read the stones description panels
  • Nerfed the Censorship effect to cancel only half of the enemy moves
  • The Persistent and Exile effects now cancel each other out
  • Trying to validate a turn with still moves available now shows a warning and requires to press the button again to validate anyway
  • The undo button now undoes the last placements one by one instead of all at once
  • Increased the tier score of the Fleeting effect (i.e. the Arrow stone will be more expensive at the shop)

Fixed

  • Fixed the number of moves not resetting properly when clearing the board after the opponent triggered an Exhaustion effect
  • Fixed the shop trying to animate already sold out slots when loading a saved game
  • Fixed the armor of the player not being reset after each battle
